Office work, yes.I actually do have some contribution to make to the Kuching office instead of just touring around, you know. I am working on developing HFH’s profile on ammado (a kind of Facebook for Non Profit Organizations). In particular, I have been tasked with setting up an online community for volunteers and friends to have a ‘cafe’ where they can share their experiences, ask questions, give tips and share pictures. I think that this ammado profile will be great for the office and I hope I am able to finish it before I leave.
I also am working on brochures, power point presentations and coming up with ways to make Kuching more visible to potential volunteers. After spending a few days here, I can see the potential of this area for our global village volunteers. How do we grab their attention and make Kuching a big destination for these eco- or samaritan-tourists? How do we raise awareness in Kuching for neighbors to help neighbors?
I am also very impressed by the Habitat board members and two Habitat employees. I have never felt so welcomed and it makes me value this experience so much more. The board members are all volunteers and it is just amazing that they have such a passion for this work that they are able to contribute so much while still having busy lives and other full-time work.
So far the supervision, trust, and work I have been given has made this entire internship experience so much more valuable. I cannot thank James, Eric, Angelina, Rose, and Sam (and her family) enough for the generosity and kindness and great learning experiences I have been able to have here in Kuching. I would not hesitate to recommend any other student to spend their internship here in this Land of the Hornbills!
